Ways to share coverage on Maple

Written by Willow

Maple supports different ways to share coverage with family members, depending on the type of membership or coverage, and the family member's age. This article outlines each method and links to step-by-step instructions.

For Maple memberships, only the Patient profiles method is available.

Coverage sharing methods

Plan sharing

Available for most employer or benefit-sponsored memberships, this method lets dependents over 18 create their own Maple account while using your coverage.

For step-by-step instructions, see the Sharing your plan with dependents article, available here.

If this option isn't available in your account or if you have dependents under 18, use patient profiles instead.

Patient profiles

Available for Maple memberships and some partnerships where plan sharing isn't enabled, this is the required method for any dependents under 18. For instructions, see the Adding a patient profile to your Maple account article, available here.

For provincial health coverage, all family members must be added as patient profiles under your account. If a family member chooses to transfer and create their own account, they'll need to reactivate their public coverage.

See Transferring patient profiles (available here) for more information on transferring a dependent to their own account.

Dependent plans

This method lets eligible dependents over 18 register using a unique link and your employee ID. It's only used in a select few partnerships.
