Maple providers are unable to issue urgent referrals. For more information on our wait times, see Specialist referral response times.
A specialist referral is a medical document that requests patients to be seen by a specific medical specialist in the public healthcare system, such as dermatologists, neurologists, urologists, gynecologists, and psychiatrists.
On Maple, specialist referrals are available in some provinces, for those with Maple memberships, and users who have certain coverage through employer benefits or private insurance plans. When requesting a consultation on Maple, please be as specific as possible if you seek a specialist referral.
If the healthcare provider cannot assist you, they will let you know before your consultation begins. If you paid an individual consultation fee, you won't be charged.
Please note that all medical care, including referrals, prescriptions, and treatment directions, is at the provider's discretion. The doctor is also required to verify your identity before issuing a referral.
