Getting started with Beyond ADHD

How to find Beyond ADHD, complete the pre-screener, and prepare for your first appointment

This article walks you through what to expect as you go through each step of our Beyond ADHD program.

For general information about the Beyond ADHD program, check out the help desk article available here.

Your Beyond ADHD journey

To get started, log in or register for your Maple account and choose the BeyondADHD program from the speciality list when you request a visit. You'll complete a short pre-screener to confirm the program is the right fit. It’s a three-step program:

  1. ADHD Assessment ($279): A comprehensive clinical interview, including a cognitive test and symptom questionnaire.

    1. Before your appointment, you’ll need to complete intake forms.

  2. Diagnosis and Treatment ($179): Review of all assessment results, formal diagnosis where appropriate, and a personalized treatment plan.

    1. Before your appointment, you complete a neurocognitive assessment, submit supporting statements from people who can attest to your ADHD symptoms, and share your health vitals.

  3. Follow-Up Care ($99): Ongoing monitoring, medication adjustments, and continued ADHD management.

Note: All patients need to start at Step 1: ADHD Assessment, even if you already have an ADHD diagnosis.

Pre-screener

Before booking your first appointment, you'll complete a short pre-screener. The pre-screener helps confirm that Beyond ADHD is the right program for you and asks questions about:

  • Your symptoms and history

  • Any current diagnoses or treatments

The pre-screener takes about 5 minutes.

Step 1: ADHD Assessment

Pre-requisites: Intake forms

Once your appointment is booked, you'll complete your pre-visit ADHD intake forms on the Maple platform. These include:

  • Your medical, educational, occupational, and family history

  • Clinically validated screeners to assess ADHD symptoms and potential co-occurring conditions

  • Any prior assessments or treatment documentation

Completing these forms before your appointment is required so your practitioner can prepare. Your appointment will be automatically cancelled if the forms are not completed within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment time.

What to expect in Step 1

Step 1 is all about building a complete picture for you and your practitioner. There are three components:

  1. A clinical interview by video to review your history, ask follow-up questions, and discuss your symptoms and goals.

  2. Neurocognitive test — complete a game-like cognitive task that measures attention, memory, and executive function. You'll complete this on your own, in a quiet space. It will take about 5 minutes.

  3. ADHD symptom questionnaire — Answer questions about ADHD symptoms across different settings and life stages. This takes about 30 minutes.

All three of these need to be completed before you can book your Step 2 appointment.

Step 2: Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Pre-requisites

Your appointment will be automatically cancelled if the three prerequisites below are not completed within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment time.

  1. Supporting statements: Supporting statements are short questionnaires completed by people who know you well. Your practitioner reviews them as part of your diagnosis. You'll invite your contacts by email from your Maple program hub. They get a secure link and complete a short form — no login or Maple account required.

  2. Health vitals: Your practitioner needs current vitals to safely review treatment options. We need your height, weight, and blood pressure, measured within the last 7 days of your visit. You can add these in your program hub before the appointment.

  3. ADHD neurocognitive assessment: You’ll complete an ADHD specific neurocognitive assessment — five game-like cognitive tasks that measure attention, memory, and executive function. This is done on your own in a quiet space and will take about 25 minutes. This will help your practitioner assess your ADHD symptoms objectively.

What to expect in Step 2

Your Step 2 appointment is when your practitioner shares assessment results, makes a diagnosis where appropriate, and discusses next steps. We’re building on the work done in Step 1 and setting up an ongoing care plan.

Your practitioner will:

  • Review your Step 1 and Step 2 results in detail

  • Provide a formal diagnosis if ADHD is confirmed

  • Discuss treatment options, including medication and non-medication approaches

  • Outline your treatment plan, including any prescriptions and follow-up timing

  • Answer your questions

If a stimulant is part of your treatment plan, you'll review and complete the stimulant treatment agreement.

Diagnosis letter

If you receive a Beyond ADHD diagnosis, a formal diagnosis letter is saved to your records on Maple. You can use this letter for school, work, or insurance purposes.

If your assessment shows you don't have ADHD

Sometimes a Step 2 appointment results in a determination that ADHD isn't the best explanation for your symptoms. If that happens, your practitioner will:

  • Explain the findings clearly

  • Discuss other possibilities or directions for care

  • Recommend next steps, which may involve your family doctor or another specialist

Step 3: Follow-Up Care

Step 3 appointments are how your practitioner stays involved in your care and adjusts your treatment over time. A Step 3 appointment typically takes 15 minutes.

Pre-requisites

You’ll complete a short intake form, assessing your symptoms and side-effects, in addition to the ADHD neurocognitive assessment that you completed in Step 2. These prerequisites must be completed 24 hours before your follow-up visit, or your visit will be auto-cancelled.

What to expect in Step 3

Your practitioner will:

  • Review how you've been doing since your last appointment

  • Review your progress against the ADHD neurocognitive assessment and intake

  • Discuss medication effects, side effects, or adjustments

  • Issue any prescriptions or refills, including stimulants

  • Talk through any non-medication strategies that are working or not working

  • Discussing strategies for school, work, and daily life

  • Answer your questions

Your practitioner will let you know how often to book Step 3 appointments. Most patients book a follow-up:

  • 4 weeks after starting a new medication

  • Every 3 months for ongoing monitoring, once you are stabilized on a medication

  • Sooner if you're experiencing side effects or your symptoms change
