Updated over 2 weeks ago

To use VirtualCareNS, you need a valid Nova Scotia health card number. Without a valid health card, you can still use Maple—visit fees will apply. For full program information, click here.

VirtualCareNS offers two options: Full Care and Basic Care.

Full Care (Nova Scotia-licensed doctors and nurse practitioners)

Full Care is only available to Nova Scotians who don't have a primary care practitioner. Full Care providers can prescribe medications and order tests. They can also refer you to specialists and in-person care.

Full Care hours of operation:

  • Monday: 8 am to 7 pm AT

  • Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8 am to 5 pm AT

  • Wednesday: 8 am to 7 pm AT

  • Sunday: 9 am to 4 pm AT

Basic Care (Canadian-licensed doctors and nurse practitioners)

Nova Scotians with a primary care practitioner have two free Basic Care visits within the calendar year and don't have access to Full Care. Those who don't have a primary care practitioner have unlimited access to Basic Care visits. Basic Care support is available 24/7/365.

  • Basic Care practitioners offer basic healthcare advice or prescription renewals (except controlled substances).

  • Basic Care practitioners can't order tests or refer you to specialists or in-person care.
