If you're not sure which doctor is best for your concerns, start with a general practitioner (GP) request. General practitioners on Maple include family medicine and emergency department physicians, as well as nurse practitioners. GPs can provide prescriptions, sick notes, specialist referrals and diagnoses at their discretion.
As part of your Maple membership, general practitioner visits are included for patients in Canada or abroad (one per family member per day). This specialty is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
To see a practitioner, log in to your Maple account and click Get Care. You'll be prompted to complete these steps:
Fill out your health profile. This helps practitioners understand your medical history. (You only do this the first time you submit a request—the information will be saved for future visits.)
Request a visit—enter your symptoms or a description of your medical request
Verify your identity. Take a picture of yourself and a photo ID so we can make sure you're really you
From there, a general practitioner will review your request in minutes. If they can help you on Maple, you'll connect for a visit. Otherwise, you'll get a redirection notice—some cases may not be suitable for virtual care, and practitioners review each request and determine this at their discretion.
We'll text and email you when the practitioner is available to speak with you—there's no need to stay on the waiting room page.
During your visit, you can communicate via secure text, audio or video call. Your general practitioner may request audio or video if medically necessary. Medical diagnoses, prescriptions and sick notes are provided directly by the practitioner during the visit at their discretion.
