Weight medication at Maple

Written by Willow
Updated this week

This specialty is currently available in all locations except Quebec, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories.

We're introducing our Weight Medication Assessment specialty—designed to help you explore weight management options with expert medical support from our network of Canadian-licensed doctors and nurse practitioners. This specialty focuses on determining if GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy are right for you. You can access one weight medication assessment per month.

You can request a Weight Medication Assessment if:

  • Your insurance plan with Maple covers these visits

  • You have a Maple membership (depending on your province)

How the Weight Medication Assessment specialty works

Step 1: Eligibility check

You'll complete an eligibility assessment to make sure GLP-1 medications are prescribed safely and appropriately to patients who are most likely to benefit from them.

Step 2: Meet with a practitioner

You'll request a visit with a qualified practitioner who will review your medical history and discuss treatment options. Visits happen through asynchronous secure messaging, meaning the practitioner may take two to three hours to respond in the chat. We ask that you also respond to their messages within three hours—either answering their questions or providing a time when you'd be available to continue.

Step 3: Treatment

All treatment is at the practitioner's discretion. If prescribed, GLP-1 medications will be sent to our partner pharmacy. Once received, the pharmacist will call you to discuss the medication, answer any questions you have and take payment. You'll receive a tracking number via email for your prescription delivery.

For more information about medications and prescription delivery, please see:

Prescription medications are only prescribed if deemed appropriate by a Canadian-licensed practitioner following a clinical assessment.

Step 4: Follow-up care

Your practitioner may recommend follow-up visits to monitor your progress. This may be through the Weight Medication Assessment specialty (for prescription renewals) or through the General Practitioner specialty (for any symptoms or questions following the initial assessment).

Depending on your coverage, you may also have access to other specialties that might help in your weight management journey. To learn more about what's available, check your coverage in your account settings or click here.

Weight Medication Assessment pricing

While speaking with a practitioner for a weight medication assessment is covered under the Maple membership fee, any prescribed medications will be an additional cost paid to the issuing pharmacy.

The price will vary depending on the type of medication and dosage prescribed, and this will be communicated by the issuing pharmacy directly.

Some medications may be covered under private insurance plans—please check with your insurance provider.
