Maple licensed providers can help with many medical concerns. If you are unsure if your request is appropriate for online care, submit it anyway — our licensed providers will decline the request and direct you to in-person care if they feel it’s necessary.
There are some requests that Maple licensed providers can’t support:
Symptoms that require in-person care
Some medical conditions require an in-person exam or testing. Common examples of concerns that require in-person or emergency care include chest pain or trouble breathing, severe injuries, or symptoms that need looking in your ears or listening to your heart or lungs. If providers review your request and cannot safely treat you on Maple, you’ll be guided to seek in-person care.
If you're aware your condition may need in-person care, but you’d still like advice on the next steps, counselling or guidance on managing your symptoms, please mention this information in your consultation request.
Medical emergencies
Maple is not intended to be used for medical emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room.
Narcotics or controlled medications
Our physicians cannot prescribe narcotics or controlled medications on Maple. Many of these medications require an ongoing relationship with a healthcare provider, which is not typically something Maple supports.
Other medications can be prescribed on Maple (at the provider's discretion).
Form completion
Our physicians do not complete forms such as Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) or other specialized disability forms since these require an in-person consultation. Other external forms, such as for insurance or school absence, typically also require an in-person assessment, but can be completed at the doctor's discretion.
Any external form that is required should be mentioned in the consultation request to ensure that you only match with a doctor who is willing to meet your needs.
